It's time for adventure!
If an Outer Edge Expeditions adventure is calling to you, then mail your deposit and a competed Reservation Form for each person to us. Most people find it advantageous to book both land and air with us. This enables us to handle your questions directly rather than through a third party. It also reduces confusion caused by incorrectly booked air.
Since space is on each trip many expeditions sell out early. We recommend your reserving a space as soon as you know when you want to travel.
Reservations & Payment
To reserve space on any expedition, submit the Trip Reservation Form with a deposit of $400.00 per person. Providing space availability you will be sent immediate confirmation.
A second payment of $400.00 per person is due 120 days prior to departure.
Final payment for all land costs is to be made 60 days prior to departure. This allows us to make final expedition arrangements. If late, a 2% penalty will be added.
If you have sent in a deposit on a trip for which the departure is in doubt and wish to be covered on a second-choice trip, you may reserve a place on the second-choice trip by sending in an additional deposit. If your first-choice trip does not depart, all funds will be transferred to the second-choice trip. The process works in reverse if your first-choice trip does depart-- all funds will be automatically transferred to that trip.
Reservations made 45 days or less before the departure date are subject to a $50 late sign-up fee. This is to defray extra administrative costs associated with last minute arrangements.
Payments received within 30 days of departure must be in the form of either a cashiers check or money order.
Tier Pricing: While we make every effort to fill each expedition to the point of maximum economy for everyone (and do all possible to avoid canceling trips with low signup), we tier price some of our adventures in order to guarantee departure with a smaller number of passengers. For example:
Land Costs: $1,795 (3-8 guests) $1,870 (2 guests)
We initially invoice for the highest tier price (smallest group size). When final group size is determined 30 days before departure, we will issue a refund if a larger group size has been achieved. All pricing is based on the number of full-revenue tour members.
Outer Edge staff are not included.
The Cost Of Your Trip Is Subject To Increase
Tour costs are subject to increase without prior notice, even after you have signed up on the trip. We publish our prices well in advance of trip departure (often more than a year in advance). Between that time and actual departure, we are occasionally faced with significant cost increases which we cannot absorb - i.e., international currency fluctuations. We regret this situation and do everything we can to avoid raising prices but sometimes it is unavoidable.
Cancellation and Refunds
All cancellation requests must be received in writing. At the time we receive your written notice the following fees apply:
No partial refunds are possible for unused meals, hotel rooms, sightseeing, etc. If your tickets were purchased through our office you will receive whatever refund is allowable by the airlines. Select trips (like those in Africa) may have more stringent cancellation penalties.
Outer Edge Expeditions reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure for any reason whatsoever, including insufficient signup or logistical problems (e.g. acts of God, war, strikes, etc.) which may impede trip operations. In this case a full refund of the land cost shall release Outer Edge Expeditions from any further liability. Outer Edge Expeditions is not responsible for expenses incurred by trip members in preparing for the expedition (e.g. non-refundable air tickets, visa fees, etc.)
Outer Edge Expeditions will handle your air and land arrangements together and there is no extra charge for our reservation and ticketing services.
Since the commissions received from air ticketing are built into the trip pricing structure in order to keep costs down, an additional charge must be imposed if Outer Edge Expeditions does not ticket your air. For flights in North America this is $50; outside of North America it is $200. This does not apply to cases where an agent is making the land reservations or when frequent flyer tickets are used.
Ticketing with Outer Edge Expeditions allows us to insure that you arrive at the destination and are met at the appropriate time.
If you arrive at a destination at a time other than the group arrival time, you will be charged an additional fee to cover the cost of a separate transfer.
Outer Edge Expeditions highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. We feel so strongly about it that it is mandatory and we automatically purchase it in your name and will include the fee on your invoice. Therefore, you must sign and return the waiver if you wish to purchase insurance elsewhere. Premiums are based on the cost of your trip along with your age. Coverage is provided by Access America, Inc. A copy of the policy terms and price will be sent to you with your invoice.
Participation on an Outer Edge expedition requires that you are in good health. It is essential that persons with any medical problems or dietary restrictions make them known to us well before departure. We can then counsel you on whether the adventure you have selected is right for you.
The Expedition Leader has the right to disqualify any participant at any time during the trip if he or she feels the participant is physically incapable and/or if a participant's continued participation will jeopardize either the individual involved or the group. There will be no refund given under these circumstances.
Outer Edge is not a medical facility and therefore has no expertise nor responsibility regarding what medications or inoculations you and your private physician should decide necessary for your safe participation in the trip.
Hospital facilities for serious problems are often unavailable and evacuation can be prolonged, difficult, and expensive. Outer Edge assumes no liability regarding provision of medical care.
All land costs are based on double occupancy. If you are a single traveler and wish to share accommodations, we will match you with a roommate if one is available. If none is available, or if you prefer single accommodations, you must pay the single supplement. Single arrangements are not always available in wilderness situations.
Some of our expeditions are suitable for parents and children. We do not identify specific "family departures" since we think that would be to restrictive. However if you, as a family, are the first guests to sign up on a particular trip we will designate that as a "family departure" at that time. Therefore, we suggest registering early to obtain a family trip. Call our office to discuss which trips are appropriate for your children.
