Ayers Rock, called Uluru by the local Aboriginal Tribe, rises 1,150 feet above ground with a circumference of 5 miles and is considered to be one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. This magnificent rock simply appears out the flat red landscape. Depending on the time of day it goes through a metamorphoses from the casting sun with shades of glowing reds to soft oranges to delicate lilacs. It is a courageous task to climb to its summit when the ascent is 1 mile and particularly steep in parts. The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) stand 656 feet taller than Ayers Rock and similarly rise abruptly out of a featureless plain. Many people find the Olgas to be more beautiful and impressive than Uluru. We will also visit Kings Canyon nestled in the George Gill Ranges.
